Butterfly populations are a very good indicator of the health of an area's ecosystem !!

   Methona themisto are found primarily in Brazil, where they prefer forest habitat.
   Their wings are transparent pale yellow with black veins, black margins and black cross bars on the forewings.
   The hind wings are very round.
   The margins of the dorsal side of the hindwings and the apex of the dorsal side of the forewings show a series of small white blue spots.
   The antennae are black, with yellowish tips.

Diet: caterpillars feed on several species of Solanaceae (mainly Brunfelsia pilosa and Brunfelsia uniflora).
Diet: adults take nectar from various flowering plants.
Wingspan: 8 - 10 cm /  3.1 - 3.9 ".
 Family:  Nymphalidae  
The single biggest threat to butterfly survival is habitat destruction!!
