Butterfly populations are a very good indicator of the health of an area's ecosystem !!
The Spectacle Swordtail, which is native to India, is a butterfly of the Swallowtail family (Papilionidae). (It belongs to subgenus Pazala of the swordtails, genus Graphium.)
They have a closely related species, the Sixbar Swordtail (Graphium eurous), which is also found in India.

Their preferred terrain includes forests and woodlands, tropical rainforests and agricultural and cultivated areas.
They are most active on sunny days when the temperature is warm, typically ranging from late morning to early afternoon.
They can be seen from April to May at elevations of 4,000 - 7,000 feet (1,200 - 2,100 m).
They are considered somewhat rare, however their exact status and distribution is not well known, and much research is needed.
It is believed that there is one generation yearly.
Adults are attracted to a variety of flowering plants, specifically those that they can nectar from.
They are not poisonous, but they have a special gland that secretes obnoxious odors and chemicals.
Predators of adult Spectacle Swordtails include birds, spiders and Praying Mantis.
