Butterfly populations are a very good indicator of the health of an area's ecosystem !!
Peacock Pansies are found in forest clearing areas, Acacia shrubs, beaches, savanna, dry forest, fertile agricultural land, parks to cities.This includes lowland species that are found at an altitude of about 500m - 1000m
They fly at moderate speed, often seen in twos or threes and like to bask in the ground or low foliage, especially on cloudy days.
They exist in two distinct adult forms, which differ primarily in the patterns on the ventral side of the wings.
The dry-season form has few markings, while the wet-season form has additional eyespots and lines. During the dry they season have an orange yellow dorsal side and a brown ventral side. The wings have firm angles with tendrils or slightly jagged, black and white outline with a brown plot.
The forewings have four brown, blue and yellow bars along the top edge and a small eye on the dorsal side and a large eye on the ventral side, dark brown or black on the edges, then white, dark blue and white stripes at the very center.
The hind wings have a large eye on the dorsal side, dark brown or black on the edges, then a white stripe, then filled in the middle by red, white and black and a small eye at the bottom with a bright yellow and black outline.
During the rainy season they have a yellow-orange dorsal side and a brown ventral side. The wings have obtuse corners without tendrils or slightly jagged, black and white outline with brown plots.

The females lay their eggs one by one on the leaves or shoots of the host plant. The eggs are slightly round in shape with a blunt top, greenish in color, there are protrusions that arise from the top to the bottom of the egg.
Peacock Pansies are is listed as Least Concern in the IUCN Red List.
Diet: caterpillars feed on a variety of plants, including Hygrophila auriculata, Phyla nodiflora and species in the genera Acanthus, Barleria and Gloxinia.
