Butterfly populations are a very good indicator of the health of an area's ecosystem !!
Also known as the Plain Lacewing.
Cethosia penthesilea can be found in nearly all tropical habitats and lowland rain forests of their home range.
They have an orange surface on te dorsal side with a broad black patch on forewing tip containing a white patch.
The dorsal surface of the hindwings are orange bordered with black.
The ventral side of the wings has a intricate pattern of white bars, edged with black lines and dots, on an orange background.
There is also a large white patch on the ventral side of each forewing.
Diet: caterpillars feed on the leaves, fruit, and stems of Lacewing Vine ( Adenia heterophylla, Passifloracea ).
Diet: adults take nectar from Native Passionfruit vine (Adenia heterophylla)
Avg. wingspan: 7 cm. - 9 / 2.75 – 3.54 “
Family: Nymphalidae
