Butterfly populations are a very good indicator of the health of an area's ecosystem !!
Also known as the Banded King Shoemaker or Demophon Shoemaker
(Archaeoprepona Demophon) is on wing throughout the year, and is more frequently found in the understory, although it is also observed in the stratum of canopy.
They prefer the edges of forest canopy and subcanopy.
Males perch on tree trunks or on foliage, sitting facing head down with wings their half open.
They take part in impressive aerial sorties, chasing each other in broad circles around the tree tops. After each sortie they each return to their original perch.
In their range there are multiple generations making it possible to see adults on wing year round.
The dorsal sides of the wings are black, with bright pale blue transverse bands.
The ventral sides are pale brown with a clearer band in the middle of the hindwings and several dark small dots on the margins.
