Butterfly populations are a very good indicator of the health of an area's ecosystem !!

Also known as the Tiger Wing Butterfly

   The Ismenius Longwings are famous for their vibrant deep burnt orange and black markings.

   They are found at elevations up to 1500 meters.

   They tend to gather at night in groups, no higher than 3 – 10 meters above the ground along the edges of forests and jungles..

   They are members of a Mullerian group of similar looking tiger striped butterflies that are toxic and unpalatable to predators.

   They have an estimated life of over 2 months.

    *There are about 71 Longwing species worldwide.

Diet: Caterpillars feed on passion vines (Passifloraceae).
Diet: Adults feed on pollen from Gurania and Psiguria plants.
* Being Brush-footed butterflies, Imenius Longwings have a short pair of fore legs that are used to taste food, and two pairs of longer rear legs that are used for propulsion.
The single biggest threat to butterfly survival is habitat destruction!!
