Also known as the Blue Banded Morpho, or Banded Blue Morpho
   Morpho achilles are large butterflies that are seen throughout the year in a huge range of countries, including ArgentinaSurinameBoliviaColombiaPeruEcuadorVenezuelaParaguay, and Brazil.
   There are eight subspecies that range through central and South America.
   The dorsal sides of the forewings are black, with two broad vertical bands of brilliant blue. The ventral sides of the hindwings are olive brownish, with several ocelli formed by blue, yellow, and red concentric rings.
   * As members of the Brush Footed (Nymphalidae) family. they use their pair of shorter front legs for food tasting, and their two pairs of longer rear legs for propulsion.

Diet: caterpillars feed on various species of climbing plants (DalbergiaIngaMachaeriumMachaerium aculeatumMyrocarpusPlatymiscium, and Pterocarpus).
Diet: adults feed primarily on rotting fruits or fermenting juice and tree sap.

Wingspan: 12.7 – 16.51 cm  / 5.0 to 6.5 “

Family: Nymphalidae
The single biggest threat to butterfly survival is habitat destruction!!
